Safety Technician (Permanent)

(McClean Lake)

 

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact on the safety and well-being of our site workforce. Your active presence in the field will encourage employees to engage fully in safety programs and contribute to enhancing our safety culture. Responsibilities include:  

  • Perform work activities as part of the Safety Team
    1. Prepare and present safety topics to site personnel
    2. Daily, weekly, monthly inspections relating to the Fire Prevention Program
    3. Data entry and analysis to inform priorities utilizing leading and lagging indicators to drive continual improvement initiatives
    4. Problem solving
    5. Warehouse/purchasing specification support for safety related items
    6. Meeting regulatory deadlines for actions and reports
  • Support Operational Leaders and Teams with respect to:
  1. Hazard identification, risk communication and risk analysis
  2. Authorization and permit to work systems
  3. Workplace inspections, audits and observations
  4. Non-conformance and incident investigation, classification, analysis and reporting
  5. Change Management technical support
  6. Contractor Management
  • Emergency Response Team support and participation such as:
  • Training
  • Emergency equipment maintenance and equipment checks
  • Participate in the Incident Command Structure (ICS) as trained and designated
  • Have an active field presence to encourage worker participation in Safety Programs
  • Lead by example following Safety rules and procedures
  • Participate in activities and meetings in a positive and engaged manner
  • Provide a team interface with leaders and teams to answer questions, provide follow up information and to ensure consistent implementation of the Safety Management System
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Safety Management System by preparing and updating related documentation including procedures, work instructions and forms
  • Assist in the preparation of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as requested

 

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

  • Safety Certification or active pursuit of a certification is required (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, NEBOSH, etc.)
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred
  • Experience in Emergency Response is considered an asset, with certification (NFPA 1001 or 1081, Emergency Medical Responder)
  • Experience in an industrial or mining environment is preferred
  • Experience/training in the following areas is preferred:
  1. Hazard analysis and risk assessment
  2. Root cause analysis
  3. Behavior based safety and human factors
  4. Industrial Hygiene
  • Familiarity with provincial and federal health and safety regulations
  • Knowledge of the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard and its implementation would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency using SAP, SharePoint, Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and speak publicly to workers and leaders
  • Good written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Preference will be given to qualified Residents of Saskatchewan’s North (RSN) 

 

Work Location & Schedule:  

  • McClean Lake site 
  • 14 days in and 14 days out rotating schedule
  • Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside or normal working hours may be required

Fly Day- This position will fly in and fly out on Tuesdays

 

Pick-Up Points: Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows and the designated communities in the Athabasca region of Uranium City, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac, and Wollaston.

 

As a condition of employment the successful candidate must complete Orano’s pre-employment checks including education verification and employment reference checks. 

 

Drug (including marijuana) and alcohol substance testing is a requirement for all Safety Sensitive positions. Applicants who have recently used marijuana recreationally may not pass a substance test as marijuana can remain in the user’s system for as many as 30 days after use.
