Operation and Projects Intern

(McClean Lake)

 

Responsibilities Include:

Leaching and flotation bench test program:

  • Participate in a program of lab work involving leaching tests in different configurations and process conditions
  • Participate in bench test for sulphides flotation 
  • Assist in other duties in the metallurgical lab

Flotation pilot:

  • Update operational procedures for flotation pilot operation
  • Participate in testing plan description
  • Assist site personnel for pilot unit improvements installation at site and connection to existing mill process
  • Assist site personnel and contractor for commissioning of the pilot unit
  • Operate the pilot for 6 months under the guidance of Orano personnel. During operation, the work schedule may include some night shifts
  • Complete sample preparation of solids and liquids samples
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of all testing
  • Attend technical meetings with Engineering and Projects Department

 

General Duties:

  • Work closely with consultants and site personnel to coordinate activities and testing 
  • Complete periodic workplace inspections, in conjunction with Orano and / or Contractor HSE personnel
  • Embrace and support Operational Excellence efforts and OE Culture
  • Comply with all Orano health, safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures
  • Promote and adhere to Orano Canada’s values: Safety and Security, Team Spirit and Cohesion, Continuous Improvement, Customer Satisfaction, Ethics, Transparency and Dialogue, Respect and People Development

 

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

  • Must be enrolled in Mine or Chemical Engineering program and entering third or fourth year of study  
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting or a plant environment is an asset
  • Experience with Sharepoint intranet collaboration sites is considered an asset
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal communication skills are required 
  • Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping
  • Must be able to work effectively to coordinate with other departments within the company as well as external contractors and consultants
  • Works well independently and possesses strong trouble-shooting skills
  • Preference will be given to qualified Residents of Saskatchewan’s North (RSN). Athabasca residents will be given priority

 

Working Location & Schedule: 

  • McClean Lake, SK – fly in/fly out remote mine site
  • 14 day in/ 14 day out rotating schedule
  • Potential for night shifts during the pilot operation phase
  • Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required
  • Some physicality will be required for the lifting and processing of samples and other miscellaneous duties
  • Position runs September - April

 

Fly Day- This position will fly in and fly out on Fridays

 

Pick-Up Points: Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows and the designated communities in the Athabasca region of Uranium City, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac, and Wollaston.

 

As a condition of employment the successful candidate must complete Orano’s pre-employment checks including education verification and employment reference checks. 

 

Drug (including marijuana) and alcohol substance testing is a requirement for all Safety Sensitive positions. Applicants who have recently used marijuana recreationally may not pass a substance test as marijuana can remain in the user’s system for as many as 30 days after use.
